About Us
Before the Boundary Waters Canoe Area became the iconic BWCA, we were already outfitting its pristine wilderness. From the earliest 19th century explorers to today’s adventurers, we’ve been assisting people through its crystal-clear lakes, dense forests, and breathtaking landscapes. Our history is deeply rooted in this wild land, and we’ve been helping people experience its beauty long before it was designated as a national treasure. Join us in continuing the tradition of exploring the wild, just as we have for well over a century.
Clearwater Outfitters is located mid-way up the Gunflint Trail north of Grand Marais on beautiful Clearwater Lake, just a mile south of the historic Voyager Canoe Route which created the boundary between the US and Canada. Designated entry point 62, we also provide shuttle service to all entry points along the Gunflint Trail (BWCA East). Our remote eastern section also known as “the other BWCA” is a particularly scenic one filled with spectacular bluffs, remote waterfalls and crystal-clear waters. By design we are large enough to meet all of your needs with premium service, equipment, food and gear while still providing that personal touch.
